Safety
Since the first Knysna shipyard started in 1820, the Knysna Heads, considered one of the most dangerous bar crossings in the world, has provided many lessons with regard to vessel safety. We have assimilated that generational knowledge and made it a critical part of our design.
The Knysna Heads demands an uncompromising approach to safety. Here are a few important features of the Vantage BX-240.
Open Transom - this allows for rapid draining of water off the deck in the event of a wave over the boat. In contrast closed transoms rely only on the scuppers to drain water, typically this leaves the boat still full of water by the time the second wave hits. Closed transoms also typically have lots of cavity space that fills with water in the event of swamping. Bilge pumps are of little use in these conditions.
Rapid draining of deck in the event of swamping, extra space on deck with feel of closed transom
Shallow Forefoot- prevents broaching in following sea, improved handling in surf. A deep forward V is great for providing a soft ride in a wind chop. But when you are dealing with ocean swell and a following sea or surf, the deep V produces to much drag and there is a tendency for the boat to veer left and right when going down a wave. Our Shallow Forefoot enables a novice skipper to feel like a well salted veteran behind the helm.
Bow with Convex Flare and extra freeboard - this gives the front of the boat a lot more volume above the waterline and prevents the Bow from stuffing into waves(essentially nose diving). The extra free board also means the bow seats have high back rests- this gives a sense of security and keeps small kids inside the boat
No Step in Hull - stepped hull designs are great for fuel efficiency and speeds over 100km/h . However they are prone to cause cavitation when you need to do tight maneuvering. So not a feature you want when navigating a treacherous sea.
100% offshore buoyancy- and complying with the aft third buoyancy rule. The BX-240 is essentially unsinkable. In the event of the boat being swamped, it will stay above the water. With no coast guard or tow services and open ocean conditions, the South African safety requirements far outweigh those for American and European boats. This is why you will see American boats with multiple large fish hatches and massive fuel tanks. You will also see these boats sinking when swamped! We use the best closed-cell polyurethane foam that we can find and then encapsulate it with a layer of Vinyl Ester resin and fiberglass, providing maximum safety for the entire family.
Consistent and Predictable Handling- this inspires confidence in even a novice skipper. Confidence is critical for staying calm and making the right decision in hazardous scenarios.

The open ocean is a place of untold beauty and mystery. The BX-240 will enable you and your family to experience this safely with confidence. Anytime, Anywhere, Anytime...
Launching & Retrieving
A one-man job
We are of the opinion that our trailer makes it preferable to keep your BX-240 on a trailer as opposed to keeping her on a mooring long term. Simply load up everything you need for the day and drop the boat in the water. This saves lugging coolers, bags and rods back and forth into the marina. At the end of the day everything is easily accessible for cleaning and can then be stored on the boat. Leaving a boat on the water comes with the problems of bird crap, fouling, electrolysis based corrosion and sea air corrosion. Invariably the boat ages a lot faster and is constantly requiring cleaning.
Launching, retrieving and towing your boat can be a stressful affair. Made worse by the fact that trailers are seldom given much thought.
We see the trailer as an important part of a seamless boating experience. Our Vantage trailer eliminates stress and gives you the freedom to take your BX-240 anywhere and singlehandedly use her with ease.
